<\/p>

Au-del\u00e0 de l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat de la randonn\u00e9e, le versant bernois du Col de la Gemmi est digne d\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat que ce soit au niveau historique qu\u2019au niveau g\u00e9ologique.<\/p>

Il faut d\u2019abord mentionner que le cheminement principal (au sens historique) descend de la Gemmi suit la rive droite du Daubensee, traverse de flanc la Winteregg avant de rejoindre Kandersteg. N\u00e9anmoins, et malgr\u00e9 le fait que cet autre sentier pr\u00e9sente des \u00e0 pic important, le cheminement vers le Gasterntal a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 depuis les temps recul\u00e9s. Il franchit le Gurnigel, qui est sur les cartes modernes, indiqu\u00e9 comme \u00e9tant le passage dans la paroi sous le Tatelishore. Toutefois, au moyen-\u00e2ge, tous les p\u00e2turages, incluant ceux de la Spittelmatte, \u00e9taient d\u00e9sign\u00e9s comme \u00e9tant le Gurgnigel. Le toponyme de Spittelmatte (le p\u00e2turage de l\u2019hospice), sous-entend qu\u2019il devait se trouver \u00e0 cet endroit un \u00e9tablissement accueillant les voyageurs traversant la Gemmi. Si aucune trace d\u2019un tel b\u00e2timent a \u00e9t\u00e9 retrouv\u00e9e, c\u2019est que l\u2019endroit se trouve juste en-dessous de l\u2019Altels duquel se sont d\u00e9tach\u00e9s plusieurs \u00e9boulements et chute de s\u00e9racs.<\/p>

Un fait int\u00e9ressant doit \u00e9galement \u00eatre soulign\u00e9\u00a0: la fronti\u00e8re cantonale ne suit pas la cr\u00eate de montagne du Col de la Gemmi, mais se trouve bien plus loin sur le versant bernois. Cela explique le fait que l\u2019auberge de Schwarenbach se trouve enti\u00e8rement sur territoire valaisan.<\/p>

Le Gasterntal, magnifique vall\u00e9e alpine, vaut que l\u2019on y descende par le Gurnigel depuis la Gemmi afin de la rejoindre. Malgr\u00e9 l\u2019aspect sauvage, cette vall\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 la cause d\u2019une trag\u00e9die survenue lors du percement du premier tunnel du L\u00f6tschberg au d\u00e9but du 20\u00e8me<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. En effet, on croyait alors que d\u00e8s que l\u2019on aurait commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 creuser la roche pr\u00e8s de Kandersteg, que l\u2019on resterait dans la roche-m\u00e8re. C\u2019\u00e9tait sans compter que le fond du Gasterntal est rempli de 200m d\u2019eau et de gravats. Ainsi, lorsque les ouvriers avaient travers\u00e9 la roche pour atteindre le Gasterntal, un \u00e9boulement de gravats et d\u2019eau s\u2019\u00e9tait produit, emportant les ouvriers. \u00c0 la suite de cette trag\u00e9die, des fontis s\u2019\u00e9taient form\u00e9s dans le fond de la vall\u00e9e et on avait \u00e9valu\u00e9 plusieurs solutions, une consistant \u00e0 geler le sol environnant le tunnel afin de pouvoir le percer en toute s\u00e9curit\u00e9. La solution finalement adopt\u00e9e a consist\u00e9 \u00e0 creuser le tunnel en longeant la Gasterntal pour traverser celle-ci beaucoup plus en amont. C\u2019est ainsi qu\u2019en regardant les cartes topographiques, ont peut se rendre compte que les d\u00e9buts de tunnels aux deux entr\u00e9es sont parfaitement align\u00e9s, mais que le tunnel effectue un \u00e9vitement en direction de l\u2019est.<\/p>

Ici, nous avions suivi la rive gauche du Daubensee qui, m\u00eame si elle ne correspond pas \u00e0 l\u2019itin\u00e9raire historique, est nettement moins fr\u00e9quent\u00e9e. Au bout du Daubensee, on retrouve le sentier officiel, et on ne tarde pas \u00e0 passer devant l\u2019auberge de Schwarenbach. Cette auberge est l\u2019objet d\u2019une nouvelle de Guy de Maupassant qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9e dans un recueil s\u2019intitulant \u00ab\u00a0le Horla\u00a0\u00bb. La pr\u00e9cision des descriptions fait penser que de Maupassant avait travers\u00e9 la Gemmi et avait entendu l\u2019histoire lui ayant inspir\u00e9 sa nouvelle.<\/p>

Apr\u00e8s avoir pass\u00e9 Schwarenbach, on ne tarde pas \u00e0 rejoindre une grande plaine, la Spittelmatte. C\u2019est pr\u00e8s de celle-ci que se trouve la fronti\u00e8re cantonale. Un peu plus loin, on suit le Schwarzbach afin de descendre \u00e0 travers Gurnigel vers le Gasterntal. Cet endroit est le seul o\u00f9 j\u2019aie pu voir des Ancolies des Alpes. L\u00e0, il \u00e9tait trop tard dans la saison pour pouvoir en voir.<\/p>

Une fois dans le fond du Gasterntal, on suit la Kander pour atteindre Kandersteg. A cause de la chaleur qui r\u00e9gnait ces jours-l\u00e0, ce torrent s\u2019\u00e9tait transform\u00e9 en eaux rugissantes et les abords de celles-ci me rappellent le souvenir du tableau de Calame \u00ab\u00a0Orage \u00e0 la Handeck\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>
